03/24/09 - This page is dedicated as a venue for complaints coming from Senior Citizens, hoping that it would result in the alleviation of any discomfort while waiting in their "pre-departure area."  The first complaint pertains to:

CEBU CAPITOL SECURITY ARRANGEMENTS, NOT FRIENDLY TO SENIORS

Yesterday was the second time that this Senior Citizen had to go to the Palace of Justice to attend a case hearing.  Although I live less than a kilometer away from my destination, I have to take a cab hoping I'd still be fresh and alert for the formal proceedings.

But, when one arrives at the gates of the Capitol, there is a sign which does not allow taxicabs to enter - no reason given.  Since I was really peeved about this condition, I remarked to the security guard about the  sign, certain to show my displeasure. "Adtu-a lang si Byron, sir!", the guard replied.  "Kinsa man na si Byron?" mumbling as I started to walk away towards the Palace of Justice.

Justice?  where is justice in this case when an old man gets out from his taxi and while walking towards his destination has to give way to a taxi with a much younger passenger? Upon seeing this, my blood pressure must have increased a milimeter higher.

When asked for an ID at the entrance of the Palace, I remarked again to the Security Officer, "If you allow me to enter the building using my Senior's Card, why can't the taxi I ride in be allowed to enter to bring me here?"  Of course I did not expect them to give me a sane answer, so I did not give the guards any chance to reply.

When I went out and retrieved my ID, the guards must have discussed the issue. One security officer told me in a very apologetic manner that I could secure a pass from Sir Byron so that next time, the guard at the entrance gate would allow the cab to enter the premises.  I said, "NO, I do not agree with such a stupid security arrangement."

If my card entitles me to discounts in restaurants, transport facilities and other amenities, why should I need another card just to enter the Capitol premises?  How about the physically challenged person entering the Capitol, do they have to go up to Sir Byron's office to secure that stupid pass?

Some people just have the knack of making any position or job description become the most important job in their world.  They create situations that would let other people realize that there is such a job and that there is somebody holding that most important job - which makes them IMPORTANT.

There, I think I have relieved my chest and controlled my blood pressure.

Presidential Pronouncement

“The root cause of our situation today is an entrenched culture of corruption . We must collect stolen riches and put people on trial for their criminal behavior, whoever they are, wherever they work and live. (Unless of course, if they have executive privilege like me.)

“We are all part of the cycle of corruption and despair and we must join hands to root out this evil that is strangling our nation.”

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
